The Rock cancels Harmonies on horizontal and vertical lines it lies on and cannot be moved by a Wheel.
(Can be removed by a boat)
This makes it the perfect Accent Tile to block Harmony Rings, because if you place it right, it blocks access to at least 2 flower tiles.
If your opponent only needs one flower to complete a Harmony ring, place the Rock on the point where that flower would create the ring. This often prevents the opponent from getting a Harmony bonus on the next move.
This is an example of a good spot to play the Rock:
Hello all, I'm Aba C. Daren, or any form of that you'd like to use. I'm one of the more active vagabond players and I absolutely adore the game, so if you have any questions you want to ask about it I'm able to answer it or find out the answer and get back to you. If you ever want to talk about the game, I'm more than happy to talk about any part of it, from strategy, to design, to why the game is what it is. And last I want to say that if you ever want to play a game and get feed back about how you played and try to get better, or if you just want to play a game, no matter the time I will be unable to say no. I am putting my services forward, and I hope everyone uses them to their advantage. I look forward to meeting all of you and learning how you play.
The story does a good job of teaching .strategy for vagabond, so if you're just learning reading through can be a fun way to do it. Otherwise, I'm hoping to put some of what I've learned up soon in a post much like Spinx has done for skud.
Yo, I'm Matt and I've actually designed some of the tiles you may have used on the site. I designed the Pond, Bamboo, and Lion Turtle tiles found in the Ancient Oasis expansion, and a few others on the side. If you ever have any ideas for tiles send me a message! I've never really liked board games until this one and I can't wait to get my full Skud set. I don't really have a favorite variant but I have made my own called Balance Pai Sho that's similar to solitaire, but with the Lion Turtle tile as the centerpiece of the game.
As far as ice breaking stuff, my favorite element is Earth, my favorite Avatar is Kyoshi, and my favorite animal hybrid is the Sky Bison because they're super fluffy and also hella tough.
Hello! My name is Micah, I'm 20, and from the western US. I'm obviously a fan of Avatar and I love board games so Pai Sho really caught my interest. I haven't really played yet but the game seems really interesting and I'm eager to learn and watch the community grow. If anyone ever wants to chat about tabletop games or just talk in general, feel free to message me here or on the Discord.
Hello everyone and welcome to our brand new forum!
Just a few notes as we get started as I can see some posts already popping up
Please keep in mind that this forum is fresh and there maybe some teething issues as we change things around based on suggestion and community input.
Please don’t expect things to remain as is currently because we would like to ensure the best experience for everyone. We do have a few extra things planned to enter into the forum over the next few days/weeks. So please be patient.
If you have any questions please direct them to my self or Skud via pm, post or discord. If you have any suggestions please post them in the “Site and Board feedback” forum.
Thanks and enjoy the forums.
Hey everyone!
I’m MrSns, I love avatar and I love pai sho. I’m from Australia and live with my lady friend just south of Sydney.
I have run a few successful communities in my time and I do wish all the success for Skud and his community. I’ll be helping him out where I can and managing the forums with him. If you have any suggestions or question please make a post in the site and board feedback forum or hit me up on discord.

Do you use the standard or modern tile design?
Beginning the game the right way is important, else you'll get beat quickly by a simple 4-flower Harmony.
Stick to these simple rules to not get behind in the early game:
- Always start with either the White Jade (White 5) or Rhododendron (Red 5).
- The second flower has to harmonize with your first placed flower.
- Don't move out to the side of a gate.
You can't form a Harmony through a gate, so a flower next to a gate can't really be used in a Harmony Ring. (Also applies to Harmonies along the midlines.)
- Every flower you place in a gate should harmonize with at least one of your flowers on the board.
- Try to get a Harmony Bonus with every move you make.
You should form your first Harmony no later than on your 4th turn. Then, always form a Harmony when moving out of a gate and place a new flower in one of the gates.
- Don't play the Orchid too early.
Having an Orchid in a gate prevents you from planting flower tiles as a Harmony Bonus and it costs you one turn to move the Orchid out of the gate.
- Watch out when playing the White Lotus, it can be abused by the opponent!
- When your opponent has 4 flower tiles on the board, check if he can finish the game with 1 or 2 moves, and block him if necessary.
Always keep in mind that tiles can be moved by the boat and wheel.
- More flowers on the board means more possibilities to create Harmonies.
Also, it's harder for your opponent to block you.
These rules serve to allow us to be kind and understanding to one another. In turn good quality discussion and content will come from this. Moderators and Administrators will impose sanctions on community members for violating the following rules and for any actions that may harm game play.
- Not allowed on The Garden Gate forums (aka The Pai Sho Boards):
1.1 Flaming, insulting, trolling and harassing other community members
1.2 Abusive, vulgar, obscene, political, racist, graphic, pornographic and law-violating materials
1.3 Adult content or links to it; This also includes any anime that is in any way graphic or pornographic
1.4 Everything must be in understandable English
