I always begin to feel bad when I use the orchid very aggressively but then I remember it can be captured by any flower making it relatively easy to counter, so then I don't feel as bad. Plus it takes up a whole turn.

Yeah, starting to capture with the Orchid is only strong if you can single out flowers that are crucial for the Harmony ring and far enough away from other flowers.
